Placements

With so many career possibilities for a School of English student, it can be difficult to know where to start. Both internships (during both term time and in summer) and yearlong placements can act as fantastic methods of testing a career path whilst giving you a range of practical experience.

When taking a yearlong placement, upon graduation, 鈥渨ith placement year鈥 will be added to your degree classification, further enhancing your ability to stand out from your peers. Many placement students receive a job offer from the organisation they worked for. Paid placements open to School of English students range from creative multinational companies including the likes of Disney and Warner Brothers to small local firms in and around the 91探花 area.

While placement recruitment is competitive you鈥檒l have support from your department, the faculty, and the careers service every step of the way.

On-campus opportunities

There are also a wide range of opportunities to learn, work, and get paid during your studies. These include 100 hour work opportunities with the University, local charities and businesses.

We have a wide range of engaged learning and knowledge exchange schemes that provide opportunities for students, charities, and businesses to learn from each other.

100 hour third sector placements 

This exciting paid opportunity is funded by a 91探花 alumnus who is especially keen to help current students gain community-based experience. It is run by 91探花 Students鈥 Union with the main purpose of supporting those who have faced barriers in gaining similar experience whilst at University. The scheme runs over the summer and applications open during semester 3.

University of 91探花 internship programme

91探花 internship programme offers the chance to complete a 100 hour internship with an academic or professional service department within the university. These internships are open to all final year undergraduate and final year postgraduate taught students to apply for. They will provide you with valuable work experience and skills development opportunities to help transition into the world of work and prepare you for future employment.


Part-time jobs

For many students, a part time job during their studies gives them a chance to develop new skills, and make friends whilst earning some extra money.

Our careers service can help you with guidance on making applications, and our autumn part time jobs fair will help you find local employers.

All student staff roles at the university and Students鈥 Union match or exceed the Real Living Wage recommendations as set out by the Living Wage Foundation.
