鈥淚 studied under the supervision of Professor Joy Stackhouse, who gave fantastic support and was a great role model throughout my PhD. She made me feel a part of the research team, and always valued my perspective on research and teaching matters.鈥

鈥淛oy also helped me to get involved in teaching and assessment during my PhD, which gave me valuable experience for when I decided to apply to become a University Teacher.鈥

鈥淚 now teach on Language and Communication Impairment in Children courses across our department. This generally involves working with speech and language therapists, as well as teaching assistants and similar roles. In our department, we offer courses from UG study, all the way up to professional CPD, so we鈥檙e supporting and working with high quality professionals throughout their careers.鈥

鈥淲e always strive to provide high quality teaching. An element of this is that we have strong links between theory and practice, with active researchers teaching on our programmes. This research-led teaching is really valued by my students, who say that they are able to relate the theory of what they learn directly into their roles as practicing professionals.鈥

鈥淎nother factor that enhances our teaching is how interdisciplinary it is. My PhD crossed over many disciplines, including education, psychology, and human communication sciences. So I鈥檓 able to bring many different perspectives to my teaching, which students really value.鈥
