Gender and Athena SWAN

The Athena SWAN Charter celebrates success in advancing gender equality in higher education and research. 91̽»¨ holds the Athena SWAN Silver Award for an ongoing commitment to progressing gender equality.

Since the formation of the School of Allied Health Professions, Nursing and Midwifery in September 2019, we have reaffirmed our commitment to the Athena Swan Charter by organising our first Athena Swan self assessment team. Prior to the formation of our School, both Nursing and Midwifery, and Human Communication Sciences, held Bronze Awards; Ophthalmology and Orthoptics shared in the School of Medicine and Population Health’s Silver Award. Thus, we bring a shared culture and track record of achievement to promote equality of opportunity and aspiration for staff and students of all genders. 

Our  current Athena Swan work is aligned closely to that of our EDI Committee and receives endorsement and support from our Dean, Professor Tracey Moore and the Executive Committee leadership team. International scholarships

We offer a generous package of financial support for international students, including undergraduate and postgraduate taught scholarships worth £10,000 towards the annual tuition fee.

Applications are open for existing offer holders for programmes starting in autumn 2025.
