Access+ Travel Bursary
The Access+ Travel Bursary is available to eligible students for undergraduate events such as open days, on-campus subject taster days, offer holder days and interviews.
Who is the Access+ Travel Bursary for?
This bursary is available to support students who meet the following criteria:
- You should live in a postcode area with a low level of participation in higher education (POLAR4 quintile 1) or a neighbourhood that is assessed as being in a lower quintile in the Government's Indices of Multiple Deprivation (IMD quintile 1 or 2). You can check your area by searching for your postcode on our 2025 entry .
Or:
- You're a participant on a University of 91̽»¨ widening access programme - Access to 91̽»¨ (all programmes), Access to 91̽»¨ Summer School, Sutton Trust Summer School
- You're a participant of Realising Opportunities attending an offer holder day at 91̽»¨
- You're care experienced
- You're a care leaver
- You're estranged from your family
- You're a carer for an ill or disabled family member
- You have parenting responsibilities
- You were entitled to free school meals at some point during the six years prior to your final KS4 year (the year you were aged 15-16).
- You're a forced migrant
What can I claim?
You can claim for train (standard class only) and coach/bus/tram tickets for the prospective student and one guest only. Receipts must be submitted as evidence with this form.
If you are travelling by car, car mileage is also available at 40p per mile. Evidence of the journey will need to be uploaded showing the miles from home to University and back. You cannot claim for parking costs.
How do I claim the Access+ Travel Bursary?
- Check to see if you live in a POLAR4 quintile 1 or IMD quintile 1 or 2 area by using our . Or meet any of the other criteria.

Once you have attended the event, complete the - uploading images of receipts as appropriate.

Please note that the refund will be paid directly into your bank account approximately 5 to 6 weeks after we have received your completed claim forms.
Points to note

The refund is only available for your journey to the following undergraduate events: open days, offer holder day, taster sessions or interviews, travelling directly to and from 91̽»¨.

If you are not claiming for mileage only costs incurred using public transport will be covered - please note that this does not include taxis.

Accepting the travel bursary does not commit you to accept 91̽»¨ as your Firm or Insurance choice. Neither does it guarantee that we will be able to offer you a study place, if we have not already done so.

Your application must be received within four weeks of visiting the University.
- You can only apply for the Access+ Travel Bursary once for each type of event i.e. open day, on-campus subject taster, offer holder day or interview.
