- Profile
-
I joined SCHARR in 2001 after working as a journalist with my remit to provide support and guidance to staff and students in their use of creative technologies to carry out their work. Much of my role is troubleshooting, but I also scan the horizon for opportunities relating to research, teaching and collaboration and maintain wide networks that support this.
I have a keen interest in new ways of working by employing creative and collaborative tools such as podcasts, social media, video, animation, and infographics as well as using artificial intelligence. I also offer guidance and support on metrics, digital profiles, information literacies and digital copyright.
I regularly write and give talks about digital academia, research and learning technology, scholarly communications, open research, web tools, altmetrics and social media. I am an active member of the 91探花 Open Educational Resources community and have a University of 91探花 Senate Award for Excellence in Learning and Teaching which I received for my pioneering work in 2013 on 91探花鈥檚 first Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs). I am also a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
I started the SCHARR Bite Size series - teaching new skills in 20-minute lessons - in 2010. The series continues to this day and the model has been adopted by other institutions. I also established the popular SCHARR Write Club in 2015, and ran App Swap Breakfasts at 91探花. I was named as one of JISC鈥檚 Social Media Superstars in Higher Education.
In 2016 I published a book on Altmetrics for Facet Books.
