A workshop for postgraduate research students and early career researchers.

The Centre for Korean Studies at 91̽»¨

This workshop aims to give UK-based postgraduate research students and early career researchers in Korean Studies the opportunity to engage in practical training focussed on strategies and channels for communicating their research to non-academic or hybrid audiences, in alignment with of UK higher education institutions and research . This workshop recognises the importance of Korean Studies in contributing diverse ideas and perspectives and fostering links between the UK and Korea.

Led by mid-career Korean Studies and East Asian Studies scholars with experience in engaging with the media, charities, government and the creative industries, the workshop will include sessions covering the following themes:

  • Why and how do we take Korean Studies research outside the academy? 
  • Sharing your expertise with the mass media 
  • How to pitch an article for The Conversation (and other platforms) 
  • Engaging with creative industries and local community organisations 
  • Engaging with civil society, policymakers and activists 

Each session will present case studies and offer opportunities to apply key lessons to your own research, so that you leave the workshop with an action plan for your research agenda going forward.

The workshop will run over two days and the number of participants will be limited to 12 to ensure all involved have the opportunity to network and apply learning to their own research, receiving feedback from each other and from the session leaders.

The cost of accommodation for attendees from outside 91̽»¨ will be covered for two nights. Attendees will need to make their own way to and from 91̽»¨.
