Background to the programme and subject area It is important that leaders are equipped with the relevant competency, knowledge and skill sets in order to be able to undertake business inquiry within organisations. This MSc (top up) programme will give learners the opportunity to understand research methods tools and techniques applied in organisational research and inquiry. The programme provides the opportunity to further develop and enhance the skills needed to make optimal decisions in complex situations and thus equips learners to assume leadership in a dynamically changing world. Unlike existing leadership programmes, this programme goes beyond the acquisition of knowledge about classical leadership theory and provides a research informed and practically applied learning experience. It enables the development of skills to successfully navigate the complexities of modern organisations in their current and future competitive environment. To study on the MSc (top up) programme, learners will have completed the Postgraduate Diploma in Management and Strategic Leadership and have developed skills and knowledge in the broad areas of strategy, innovation and change, finance for decision making, enterprise and risk (K1-9, S1-S7 as referred to in the Postgraduate Diploma in Management and Strategic Leadership programme specification). The programme will be delivered and taught in one business inquiry methods study block; followed by a proposal presentation and a supervisor to support the learner through to submission of their applied business project (60 credits).16. Teaching, learning and assessment Development of the learning outcomes is promoted through the following teaching and learning methods: The programme is delivered via one block study session with one assessment completed after the study block session as a proposal for their applied business project and the final submission will be at the end of the academic year. There will also be optional writing retreat sessions throughout the academic year. Teaching will be delivered in highly participative, interactive learning sessions aimed at helping learners to reflect on their experiences and continue their development of their business inquiry skills (K10-11 and S8-9). Sessions will involve a mix of traditional lecturing and workshop based approaches involving personal and group exercises, case studies and reflection from the learners own work experience. Learners are also expected to undertake independent study to maximise their learning. The module will be supported on Blackboard with detailed handouts being provided to cover basic lecture material. Learners must be registered on the MSc Management and Strategic Leadership (Top Up) programme within 5 years of completion of the Senior Leader Apprenticeship (Postgraduate Diploma Management and Strategic Leadership). Due to the nature of the programme the focus for the business inquiry will need to be strategic management and/or leadership focused. Learners will be allocated a supervisor to provide advice and guidance throughout their project. In order to provide academic and pastoral support, all learners will be assigned a Personal Tutor who they will be able to contact throughout their period of study. The Personal Tutor will be based at the Management School and students will be able to make appropriate arrangements to communicate with their Personal Tutor and will meet with them once a semester.
