PhD Student with the Water Infrastructure and Resilience (WIRe) Centre for Doctoral Training (CDT). Researching intermittent water supply networks to benefit global public health. The research is in partnership with The Beacon Project, a collaboration between Anglian Water and WaterAid, which is aiming to improve the water and sanitation system in Lahan, Nepal.

Research Project: Enabling a robust transition from intermittent to continuous water supply.
Piped water networks are designed to operate continuously, providing water to the consumers tap 24/7, 365 days a year. And yet more than 1 billion people experience intermittent water supply (IWS) in which water is only provided for a few hours a day or week.
IWS causes numerous health problems and severe disruption to livelihoods. In addition, IWS results in large inequity within the network, with those in privileged positions receiving far greater quantities of water than the less privileged.
This research aims to model the distribution of water within IWS networks to understand this inequity in received supply. This will provide greater understanding of how the network can be improved to benefit everyone in the city and ultimately achieve continuous water supply. The UN sustainable development goal (SDG) 6.1 aims to ‘achieve universal and equitable access to safe and affordable drinking water for all’ by 2030; if this goal is to be met, IWS systems must be improved.
