Profile

I joined the School in 2012, having previously worked as a senior information practitioner in the UK Higher Education sector. Latterly, I was Chief Information Officer at the University of Nottingham with responsibility for a large converged IT and library service supporting Nottingham鈥檚 campuses in the UK, China and Malaysia. I have experience of leading a wide range of research-and-development projects and participating in national policy initiatives, and bring this experience to bear on my research and teaching. My main research and teaching interests focus on scholarly communication, research data management, open access and open science, digital scholarship, research policy, and managing information and technology services in organisations. I am now Senior Research Fellow at the (RoRI), an international collaboration carrying out translational research on the research system.

University Responsibilities

  • Senior Research Fellow at the Research on Research Institute (RoRI)
  • Module Coordinator:
    • Academic and Workplace Library, Information and Knowledge Services (INF6200 and INF6502)
  • Member of the University Open Research Advisory Group.
  • Member of the Digital Societies Research Group.
Research interests

My research interests focus on scholarly communication, research data management, open access and open science, digital scholarship, digital information resources management, research policy, and managing information and technology services in organisations. Recently, this has included work on open-access publishing and dissemination, library and information strategy, and higher education research policy. I work at the intersection between technology deployment, policy development, and cultural practices, using both quantitative and qualitative methods. Much of this has to date concentrated on applied areas, stemming from my professional background as an information services manager before moving into an academic role. I have, however, combined this with working with a number of theoretical models in order to understand patterns of uptake of innovative approaches to scholarship and communication. I am interested in the relationship between theory and practice, and in how researchers interact with practitioners in information-related and knowledge-producing organisations.

I am a member of the Digital Societies Research Group and the Libraries and Information Society Research Group.
