Who and what: The Nederlandse Vereniging 24-25

The Nederlandse Vereniging, or Dutch Society, is the throbbing heart of Dutch Studies at 91̽»¨. Here is who they are and what they plan to do.

Hoi allemaal! My name is Beth and I am in my final year of my BA in Languages and Cultures studying Dutch and German. I am very excited to be the president of the Nederlandse Vereniging for the academic year 2024/25.

Last year's committee did an amazing job, and now that the torch has been handed over, I would like to take the opportunity to introduce myself and the rest of the committee. We can’t wait to see what the year to come holds for us!

As a society we run many events throughout the year, ranging from themed bar crawls and nights out to study groups and craft evenings! We also have two regular events, Pub en Praten and Thee en Taart, two great ways to meet up with like minded students and practise your Dutch in a relaxed setting. Working closely with other societies, especially the other language societies, is something that we love to do so you can be sure that there will always be something fun going on!

Let me introduce the NV Committee!

Hoi! I’m Freya! I’m really looking forward to being the new vice president for the NV! I’m currently in my second year of studying Dutch, German and French. The NV has been invaluable to me and I can't wait to continue that legacy this year.

Dag! My name is Ben. I study Dutch, German and Economics  and I’m the Treasurer (penningmeester) for the Dutch Society next year. I'm really looking forward to growing the society and getting more people involved. It’s going to be a great year!

Ha! Ik ben Theo and I am your NV Secretary. I study Dutch and French and found the Dutch community in 91̽»¨ to be really accessible. I have made some really good friends in the society and in my Dutch classes, which influenced my decision to get involved this coming academic year!

Hoi! I'm Edwin and I am the new inclusions officer for the upcoming year. I study Dutch and also Mathematics. I really loved attending all the NV events over the last year. I am really looking forward to meeting lots of new students as well as making the next year of NV just as fun!

Dag mensen! Ik ben Tyler and I’m this year’s Publicity Officer. I study Dutch, Italian and xx in my final year and I can’t wait to get more involved with the students union this year, especially when it comes to creating a welcoming environment for the Dutch speaking community here in 91̽»¨!

Hoooi!!!! I’m Elsa, and just like Tyler I am Publicity Officer for the NV. I study Dutch, German and History. Last year I found the NV really helpful to get to know 91̽»¨â€˜s lovely Dutch community. It has been a great way to get to know people from all different stages in their degree and learn more about Dutch and Flemish culture. I am very excited to get creative with the socials and can’t wait to be more involved this year! :)

Voilà! That’s your new 24/25 NV Committee! We’re all so excited to make the NV a welcoming hub for Dutch at 91̽»¨.
